I’ve driven through the prairies for the past 2 days and of course I’ve been keeping an eye out for political signs. If there ever was a doubt about the political differences between provinces, let me put those doubts to rest. As soon as I ended Saskatchewan, the number of Liberal signs diminished greatly. And once I made it into Alberta, it’s been all blue. As I make my way through British Columbia, I’m interested to see what how the dynamics change.
Of course as anyone who’s spent time in politics will know, sign wars don’t always correlate with voter turnout. The one thing ‘winning the sign war’ does, is give candidates the appearance (rightly so) of a strong organization, and provides momentum and encouragement for their supporters. In the end, like I’ve said before, it’s all about the support that you actually translate into votes. If you don’t have that, it doesn’t matter how many signs you have.
With that being said, if you have a lawn I urge you to put out a sign showing your support for your local Liberal candidate.
